Matthew A. Gotlin
Partner and Director of Research
Matt oversees the investment research, due diligence and quantitative modeling that underlies the recommendations we make to our clients. He is a member of the investment committee and also manages client portfolios.
At the height of the 2009 financial crisis, Matt was searching for a firm with the experience, skill and flexibility to maneuver effectively through challenging markets. At Biegel Waller, Matt discovered a team focused on the client and committed to identifying investment opportunities with attractive risk-adjusted return characteristics. Matt joined our firm because he observed a depth of knowledge, experience and dedication to the investment research process that is unmatched.
Matt’s extensive research background includes founding March Capital, a private equity firm; conducting equity and fixed income research as a Senior Analyst at Chesapeake Partners, an event-driven hedge fund; and focusing on health care as an investment banking analyst at PaineWebber.
“While my experience provides the necessary tools for the investment analysis that I love, the rewarding part of Biegel Waller continues to be working with clients,” Matt says. “The trust clients place in us is not something we take lightly. It is an enormous responsibility that humbles us daily. Accordingly, we harness our energy and passion to ensure a positive experience for our clients.”
As a father of four young children, Matt is an active youth sports coach. Matt currently serves on the Board of Directors for Kennedy Krieger Institute as well as PACT, an organization focused on the care of young, medically fragile children. As a cancer survivor, he is an active fundraiser in the cancer community and has led teams which have raised almost $200,000. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, running and participating in triathlons.
A Duke University graduate, he received his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
